BLADELOGIC EXPANDS EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT TEAM WITH INDUSTRY VETERANS TO SUPPORT EXPLOSIVE GROWTH

Marc Venator Appointed Chief Financial Officer and Murali Menon Appointed Vice President of Engineering

Waltham, MA, August 9, 2004—BladeLogic, Inc., the leading provider of data center automation software, today announced the expansion of the company’s executive management team with the appointments of Marc Venator as Chief Financial Officer and Murali Menon as Vice President of Engineering.

BladeLogic has emerged as the clear leader in the data center automation software market. In a short period of time the company has delivered outstanding business results with over triple digit annual revenue growth rates since its inception, expanded its operations overseas to both Europe and Asia, and accumulated a long list of Global 2000 and other leading companies as customers, including such organizations as Chicago Mercantile Exchange, General Electric, HSBC, IBM, SunGard, Time Warner, and Wal-Mart. The addition of Venator and Menon will enable BladeLogic to further scale its operations, accelerate its product development, and expand its leadership position in the market.

As BladeLogic’s Chief Financial Officer, Marc Venator is responsible for leading BladeLogic’s financial operations, human resources, and planning and analysis, and brings to the company over twenty years of strong management experience, including all aspects of operational and strategic planning, equity and debt offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and currency risk management. Marc was previously the Chief Financial Officer at Precise Software until the acquisition of Precise by Veritas. Earlier, Marc was the Chief Financial Officer and later the Chief Operating Officer at Saville Systems, a billing software company where he managed all aspects of the business and had over 1400 employees reporting to him. While at Saville Marc was instrumental in taking the company public and managing its secondary offering. Earlier, he was in a variety of financial management positions of increasing responsibility at Coopers & Lybrand, Quaker Oats, and Systems Software Associates.

As Vice President of Engineering, Murali Menon is responsible for all of BladeLogic’s product development activities. Prior to joining BladeLogic, Menon was the Vice President of Engineering at ConnecTerra, a developer of enterprise infrastructure software for the RFID market. Before ConnecTerra, Murali was the Chief Technology Officer and a founding member of SupplierMarket.com, a developer of sourcing and collaboration solutions, which was eventually acquired by Ariba. Earlier, he worked at Epsilon Data Management, a database marketing company, heading the Internet group that web-enabled large data warehouses. Murali has extensive R&D experience working as a senior researcher and program manager at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Lincoln Laboratory.

“The hallmark of any great technology company is the intersection of strong business execution with strong technical execution. With this operating principle in mind, we have been extremely selective in how we have built out our management team,” said Dev Ittycheria, President & CEO of BladeLogic. “With the addition of Marc and Murali, the collective experience and track record of our senior management team is second to none and is the foundation on which BladeLogic is poised to become one of the next big software companies. It is truly a privilege to work with as talented a team as the one we have at BladeLogic.”

“I have been impressed with how much BladeLogic has accomplished in such a short period of time during one of the most difficult macroeconomic periods anyone has seen in the last 20 years,” said Marc Venator. “The chance to work with such a strong team on such a large market opportunity was one too good to pass up. I look forward to helping the company scale its business given its ambitious plans for growth.”

“BladeLogic has built a solid reputation as having the most sophisticated data center automation solution on the market today. This reputation, validated by industry analysts and the company’s impressive portfolio of Global 2000 customers, is a direct result of the efforts of BladeLogic’s talented engineering team,” said Murali Menon. “I am very excited to lead BladeLogic’s engineering organization and help the company expand its product leadership position in the market.”
